Set the Menu Category standards. See Menu Category for general configuration steps. For Genius Kiosk, configure the following:
Field Name / Rule
Value / Requirement
Validation Requirement
Category Name
Guest-facing display name
The name in Data Management must be exactly what should display on the kiosk.
Category Image
Assigned using KioskMenuCatImage
Each guest-facing category should have an assigned image, where applicable.
Set the Menu Item Group standards. See Menu Item Group for general steps. For Genius Kiosk, the following rules apply:
Scenario
Kiosk Behavior
Validation Requirement
One Menu Item Group in a Category
Products display immediately at that level
Confirm category opens directly to products.
More than One Menu Item Group in a Category
Groups display as subcategory buttons.
Confirm kiosk displays the intermediate group selection.
Set the Product Naming standards in Genius Portal → 4-Dot Menu → Data Management → Ordering Settings → Products → Product List. See Create Product for general steps. For Genius Kiosk, configure the following:
Field / Rule
Value / Requirement
Validation Requirement
Formal Name
The master Data Management product name
Retain correct formal naming for core product setup.
Alternate Name
Use when the kiosk display name should differ from the Formal Name
Populate when the kiosk should omit size or use a different guest-facing label.
Display Logic
The kiosk uses Alternate Name, if populated. Otherwise, it uses Formal Name.
Validate displayed item button text on the kiosk.
Set Product Options / Modifiers. See Modifiers for general steps. For Genius Kiosk, the following rule applies:
Rule
Validation Requirement
If a product has Options in Data Management, the kiosk should display the Options page after the default product is selected from the Menu Item Group.
Confirm the Options (modifiers) page displays after the item selection.
Define the top-level menu structure:
From Genius Portal, navigate to 4-Dot Menu → Data Management → Ordering Settings → Menu Layout.
From Menu Layout, select Menu.
From Menu, select the top-level menu created in Step 1.
Important
Ensure only one top-level menu is enabled at a time. If multiple menus are enabled, users will see an unintended text-based screen before the menu.
Optional: Duplicate top-level menus for different day parts. For example, Breakfast versus All Day.
Build the menu hierarchy:
The menu must follow this order: Top-Level Menu → Menu Category → Menu Item Group(s) → Products.
Key rules:
A Menu Category contains one more more Menu Item Groups.
Display one item group and the products display directly.
Display multiple groups and the buttons appear instead of products.
Combine or reorganize groups, if needed, for a better user experience. For example, Soup + Salad combined into one chooser group for the kiosk display.
Create Product Items:
From the Genius Portal, navigate to 4-Dot Menu → Data Management → Ordering Settings → Products → Product List.
From Product List, create or duplicate an item. See Create Product for general steps.
Set up Modifier Collections. See Modifier Collections for general steps.

Which modifier groups are pre-selected
Important rules:
The default selections auto-carry into the kiosk view.
There is no need to configure twice.
Create Order Source Modifier Collections for Kiosk-specific control. See Product List - Build - Order Source Modifier Collection for general steps. For Genius Kiosk:
Show only relevant modifiers on the kiosk and keep point of sale (POS) modifiers unchanged. For example, show large list of modifiers on POS and only four to five simplified options on the kiosk.
Add a kiosk-specific modifier collection.
Assign the new modifier collection as Order Source = Kiosk.
Build Bundle Components. This is a best practice to create once and reuse everywhere instead of creating per item, so that editing the one template edits for all items. See Bundle Components for general steps. For Genius Kiosk:
From Genius Portal, navigate to 4-Dot Menu → Data Management → Ordering Settings → Products → Bundle Components.
From Bundle Components, select New Bundle Component and create reusable templates such as:
Choose your side
Choose your sauce
Optional add-ons
Configure Availability and set the Order Source restrictions for products, bundles, and modifiers. See Menu - Create Menu - Availability - Order Sources for general steps. For Genius Kiosk:
Options:
Only these sources
Exclude these sources
Mistakes in this configuration can cause:
Items disappearing from stores
Items only visible in labs
Configure Variants. To prevent unwanted downgrade and upgrade behavior, define variant types, such as size. For example, set the following rule: Convertible variant types = size.
Set Kiosk Display rules. See Create Product - Build for general steps. For Genius Kiosk:
Default build items: Do not show to kitchen unless removed
Modifier variations: Can be hidden from the kiosk through an Order Source restriction. See Step 10.
Configure Product Appearance. See Create Product - Appearance for general steps. For Genius Kiosk:
Set Product Image.
If the kiosk image is not set, the system uses a fallback image.
Configure Images in kiosk portal:
From the kiosk portal, navigate to Ads → Kiosk Splash and upload the images.
Note
Rules:
Use the same filename to overwrite existing images.
Resolution: 1080 x 1920 portrait
