Things to Know

What type of order information is displayed in the header and footer of each kitchen ticket?

The system administrator determines which information fields are displayed in the kitchen ticket header and footer.

For descriptions of the information fields that may be displayed in the header of kitchen tickets, see Kitchen Ticket Header.

For descriptions of the information fields that may be displayed in the footer of kitchen tickets, see Kitchen Ticket Footer.

How does the kitchen staff navigate pages on the kitchen display?

When the number of orders exceeds the number of available cells on a page, the newest orders are moved to a new page.

The title bar located at the bottom of the screen identifies the page that is currently open and the total number of pages.

From the title bar, use the page controls to navigate the pages or swipe the touchscreen display.

How does the kitchen staff view the recipe for an order item?

XKM provides the ability to look up recipes for order items. Depending on how the system administrator configured the system, the recipe instructions may be a list of ingredients with text and images, or a video.

For more information, see Recipe Lookup Screen.

Customer orders are typically prepared at two or more different stations prior to final assembly and delivery to the customer. How does XKM enable the kitchen staff to monitor the status of the order items?

The  Upstream Status Displays feature enables the kitchen staff to monitor the status of order items at other stations. Order items can only be bumped from the kitchen displays once all items associated with the order are prepared.

An order item status indicator is displayed next to each parent (or base-level) item to indicate its upstream status.

What type of alerts does XKM provide to notify the staff when certain events occur?

XKM generates audio and animation alerts when certain conditions arise or when specific events occur, such as when an order item is added to an existing order.

For descriptions of the audio and animation alerts used with XKM, see Alerts and Indicators.

How are notifications used with the XKM application?

Notifications are event messages or alerts generated by XKM or delivered to XKM from an external system, such as the Ordering application.

Notifications alert the kitchen staff of events or situations that require their attention, such as "Printer is offline" or "Large party arrived".

Are there any additional information panes the kitchen staff can view from a kitchen display?

Various kitchen display panes are accessible from the popup functions menu:

  • Ingredient Summary Pane - View the ingredient quantities to prepare for the order items routed to the display. The quantities are automatically updated as orders are bumped and new orders are added.

  • Order Item Summary Pane - View the order item quantities to prepare for each order on the display. The quantities are automatically updated as orders are bumped and new orders are added.

  • Production Forecast Pane - View the product quantities to prepare within 30-minute intervals to meet the forecasted customer demand.

Does XKM provide a display that notifies the customer about the status of their order?

An Order Ready display may be positioned in the customer waiting area to enable the customer to see the status of their order.

While a customer's order is prepared in the kitchen, the customer's name is displayed in the In Progress section on the display. When the order is ready, the customer's name is displayed in the Ready section.
