To define rules for Xenial Cloud applications to meet the company's business needs:
From the Business Rule Group List homepage, select the business rules group.
Each business rules group includes the following sections:
Section
Description
General
The numeric identification code, name, and description of the business rules group.
Items
The group rules and their respective values.
To access the business rules, open the Items section.
In the Value field, type or select a specific value for each listed rule.
From the upper-right of the screen, select Save.
Business
The following describes the rules in the Business group:
Rule | Description |

Business Start Time | The time of day when business starts. |
Default Login Landing Page | The default landing page after logging into Xenial Cloud Back Office. |
Labor Law
The following describes the rules in the Labor Law group:
Rule | Description |

Start Time School Day | The time of day when an employee can begin work on a scheduled school day. |
End Time School Day | The time of day when an employee must end work on a scheduled school day. |
Start Time Non-School Day | The time of day when an employee can begin work on a non-school day. |
End Time Non-School Day | The time of day when an employee can end work on a non-school day. |
Max Hours School Day | The maximum number of hours an employee can work per day on a scheduled school day. |
Max Hours Non-School Day | The maximum number of hours an employee can work per day on a non-scheduled school day. |
Max Hours School Week | The maximum number of hours an employee can work on a school week. |
Max Hours Non-School Week | The maximum number of hours an employee can work on a non-school week. |
Payroll
The following describes the rules in the Payroll group:
Rule | Description |

Average Daily Salary for All Managers | The average daily salary earned by store managers. |
Include Tips in Minimum Wage Adjustment | If enabled, tips earned are factored in when applying the minimum wage adjustment. |
Maximum Payroll Transmission Days | The maximum number of days of payroll to transmit at a time. |
Number of Work Weeks in a Year | The collective number of weeks that employees work each year. |
Pay Period Start Day of Week | The day of the week when the pay period begins. |
Pay Period Start Time of Day | The time of day when the pay period begins. |
Pay Period Work Days in Week | The collective number of days that employees work each week in a pay period. |
Pay Period Work Hours in Day | The collective number of hours that employees work each day in a pay period. |
Payroll Transmission Cut Off Time | The time of day when payroll must be transmitted. |
Salary Employees Calculated in OT | If enabled, include hours worked by salaried employees in overtime calculations. |
Salary Employees Included in Payroll Export | If enabled, include hours worked by salaried employees when exporting payroll. |
Salary Employees Included in Reports | If enabled, include hours worked by salaried employees on payroll reports. |
Salary Employees Included in Labor Calculation | If enabled, include hours worked by salaried employees in payroll labor calculations. |
Payroll Rate Precision | The number of decimal places of precision to use when calculating salary rate to hourly rate. The default is four decimal places (0.0000). |
Payroll Wages Precision | The number of decimal places of precision to use when calculating payroll wages. The default is two decimal places (0.00). |
Payroll Hours Precision | The number of decimal places of precision to use when calculating payroll hours. The default is two decimal places (0.00). |
Payroll Rounding Method | The rounding method to use when calculating payroll.

Payroll Lock Down Grace Period | The number of days after period end to allow payroll changes before finalizing the period. |
Automatically Close Payroll Period | If enabled, each payroll period is automatically closed. |
Enable Payroll Period Closure | If enabled, a payroll period may be manually closed. |
POS
The following describes the rules in the POS group:

Send Messages to POS | If enabled, messages are sent to the Xenial Cloud Ordering application. |
Schedule
The following describes the rules in the Schedule group:
Rule | Description |
---|---|
Maximum Consecutive Days per Week | The maximum number of days an employee can work in a row in a week. |
Maximum Shift Hours per Day | The maximum number of hours an employee can work per day. |
Roles Allow View Rate of Employee Shift | The names of roles that can view the pay rate for each employee shift on the labor schedule. |
Shift Default Length | The default length (in hours) of an employee shift. |
Shift Maximum Length | The maximum length (in hours) of an employee shift. |
Shift Minimum Length | The minimum length (in hours) of an employee shift. |
Log Schedule Publishing to | The location of where the Log Schedule is published. |
Track Skill Level Per Employee Job | If enabled, employee skill levels for each job are tracked. The manager can consider skill levels when assigning employees to shifts. |
Restrict Clopenings | Enforce local and state ordinances around Fair/Predictive Scheduling practices. "Clopenings" refers to the practice of scheduling the same employee for a closing shift and a subsequent opening shift on a consecutive day. Employees must have at least X number of hours between shifts to ensure adequate rest and commute time. In most states, this number is 11. |
Number of Hours Between Closing and Opening Shift | The minimum number of hours that must pass between consecutive closing and opening shifts for an employee. |
Out Of Hours Scheduling | Allow employee scheduling between the store open and close time + "Post-Scheduling Window" The "Post-Scheduling Window" is defined using the Store Hours Config editor, which is accessible from the Back Office Settings menu of Data Management. |
Enforce Store Hours | Enforce the employee scheduling restrictions defined by the Store Hours Config editor, which is accessible from the Back Office Settings menu of Data Management. |
Remove Variance Bar | Remove the variance bar from the employee schedule. The variance bar provides details about the variance between the scheduled labor and the labor requirements. |
Schedule Bucket Size | The number of minutes to use when defining buckets of time on employee schedules. Valid values: 15, 30, 60 |
Staff
The following describes the rules in the Staff group:
Rule | Description |
---|---|
Assign Next Available Employee ID | If enabled, automatically assign the next available employee ID to new employee records. |
Blind Validate Employee SSN Entry | If enabled, mask the Social Security Number (SSN) when validating the SSN of an employee. |
Calculate Hours for Salaried Employee | If enabled, include hours worked by salaried employees in payroll labor calculations. |
Calculate Net Sales by Employee | If enabled, calculate Net Sales for each employee. |
Reserved Employee IDs Count | The desired number of reserved employee IDs that cannot be assigned to employees. |
Calculate Business Date Ahead of Calendar Date | If enabled, allocate the assigned business date ahead of the calendar date when calculating payroll wages. |
Punches Rounding | From the dropdown menu, select the desired increment in minutes to round employee punch records. |
