Basic Configuration Settings

The following describes the settings in the Basic Configuration section of the Kitchen Settings editor.

Setting

Description

Footer Text

Type the name of the kitchen display.

The name is displayed in the footer of the display.

Orientation

Select the desired screen orientation:

  • Row – The order cells on the screen are sequenced in rows with the orders listed left-to-right.

  • Column – The order cells on this display are sequenced in columns with the orders listed top-to-bottom.

Important

Split screen displays are only supported in Row orientation.

Order Overdue After

Define the amount of time that must pass after an order arrives in the kitchen before it is considered overdue.

When an order is overdue, the timer flashes red and yellow.

  • From the dropdown menu, select the desired time interval: Seconds or Minutes.

  • In the provided field, type the desired number of seconds or minutes.

Order Warning After

Specify when the countdown timer for a Future Order changes color (yellow background and red text) to alert the kitchen staff that the order is nearly overdue.

  • From the dropdown menu, select the desired time interval: Seconds or Minutes.

  • In the provided field, type the number of seconds or minutes before an order's Pickup Time to change the timer colors.

Allowed Bump States

Select the order states that the kitchen staff may bump from the screen.

If no order states are selected, then all order states may be bumped from the kitchen screen.

To enable the kitchen staff to bump an order from a kitchen screen regardless of its order state after a period of time has passed, enable the Override Bump Restrictions option in the Display section of the General Kitchen Settings editor.

Bumpbar Map Names

Select the desired bumpbar map for this screen.

A bumpbar map defines the basic functions of the bumpbar buttons and the bumpbar's alternate functions.

Upstreams

Select the displays that are "upstream" of this display.

Order items from the selected displays will also appear on this display.

About the Upstream Status Feature

Orders and combo meals are generally prepared at two or more different stations prior to final assembly and delivery to the customer. The Upstream Status feature indicates the status of order item components at other stations and disallows the bumping of an order from a kitchen display until all order item components are fully prepared.

Bump Upstreams

Select the displays where orders are bumped automatically when the same order is bumped from this display.

Enable Kitchen Printing

Enable kitchen printing functionality for this display.

When enabled, the following additional fields appear:

  • Choose a Printer - From the dropdown menu, select the printer to use.

  • Choose a Receipt Template - From the dropdown menu, select the template to use when printing kitchen tickets.

About Kitchen Routing

Configure kitchen routing rules to ensure order items are routed to the appropriate kitchen printers. The kitchen routing rules are based on the kitchen routing categories assigned to products and kitchen printers.

  • Define kitchen routing categories using the Kitchen Routing Categories editor. Examples of routing categories include: Burgers, Subs, Sides, and Desserts.

  • Associate products with kitchen routing categories using the Routing Categories field on the General page of the Product List editor.

  • Associate kitchen printers with kitchen routing categories using the Routing Categories section of the Printer Options page of the Peripherals editor.

  • The kitchen routing categories selected for a kitchen printer determine which products are routed to that printer and printed on kitchen tickets.

Ingredients Pane Decimal Places

Type the desired number of decimal places to use for ingredient quantities on the Ingredient Summary Pane.

Native Scheme

From the dropdown menu, select the native kitchen scheme for this display.

The native kitchen scheme name is not displayed in the title bar when it is active.

Retry Count

Type the number of times the kitchen application should try to reconnect to the server if the server does not respond.

Column Count

Type the number of order columns to include on the display.

Split Offset

Type the first cell number for the second screen on a split screen display.

Valid values: 0-6

Important

This setting is only applicable to split screen displays.

Seat Tag

Type the text to indicate a "seat" on a kitchen ticket when orders at the Ordering application are segmented by "seat".

If an order associated with a "seat" is sent from the Ordering application with prioritization, those order items are displayed on a separate ticket.

Item Tap Event

From the dropdown menu, select the desired event when an order item is touched on the display.

  • Advance Lifecycle - Advance the lifecycle of the item to its next event: Claim or Complete. Select the desired event(s) from the Item Lifecycle Events field.

    This feature is used in store environments where the kitchen staff claims the individual order items on a ticket that they will prepare. "Claimed" and "Completed" items are tagged and color-coded to distinguish them from other items on the ticket, and to identify the kitchen display where they were claimed/completed.

  • Bump Order – (default) Bump the order from the kitchen display.

Item Lifecycle Events

Important

This field is only applicable when Advance Lifecycle is selected from the Item Tap Event dropdown menu.

Select the desired event(s) when an order item is touched on the kitchen display. Both events are selected by default.

  • Claim - Display a color-coded indicator next to the item to indicate the item is "claimed".

  • Complete - Display a color-coded check mark next to the item to indicate the item is "complete".

Note

Color-coding for the "Claim" and "Complete" indicators is defined at the kitchen scheme level using the Kitchen Schemes editor.

Priority Order Destinations

Select the order destinations that can be sent to the display as "priority orders".

When XKM receives an order from the Ordering application with a priority flag, XKM identifies the order as a priority order and presents it on the kitchen display as follows:

  • "Priority Order" is displayed in the kitchen ticket header.

  • The order is displayed in the first cell of the order queue ahead of all other orders.

This notifies the kitchen staff that they need to prepare the priority order immediately before other orders in the queue.
