Kitchen Displays

Order information sent from the Ordering application is displayed on "tickets" on the kitchen displays. The system administrator can set up the kitchen displays to only display particular types of order items.

For example, grill items like Hamburgers and Chicken Breasts are routed to the Grill display, while fried items like French Fries and Chicken Tenders are routed to the Fryer display.

The kitchen displays can also be set up to only display order items for particular order destinations, such as Dine In or Drive Thru.

This section includes the following topics about kitchen displays.

Kitchen Display Views

The following table describes the two types of kitchen display views.

  • Split screen displays are NOT supported.

Title Bar

The title bar is located at the bottom of the kitchen display. The title bar identifies the content that is currently on display.

The following information is provided on the title bar from left-to-right:

  • Day of the week / Calendar date / Time of day

  • Total number of kitchen tickets

  • Kitchen display name (e.g. GRILL, FRONT COUNTER)

  • Page number and total number of pages (e.g. Page 1 of 2)

Anmerkung

The Kitchen Scheme name may be appended to the display name (e.g. GRILL - HIGH VOLUME). If the default Kitchen Scheme is open, then the kitchen name is not displayed.

Notifications are event messages or alerts generated by XKM or delivered to XKM from an external system, such as the Ordering application.

Notifications alert the kitchen staff of events or situations that require their attention, such as "Printer is offline" or "Large party arrived".

Kitchen Management Messages

Notification messages generated by XKM are accessed via the Enhanced Functionality Menu.

The number of existing notifications is displayed in the title bar of the kitchen display.

External Application Messages

A notification message delivered from an external application is displayed on the kitchen display in a dialog box enabling the kitchen staff to acknowledge it.

Example: A "Help" notification from a customer using a kiosk to place their order.

Navigate Pages on a Kitchen Display

When the number of orders exceeds the number of available cells on a page, the newest orders are moved to a new page.

The title bar identifies the page that is currently open and the total number of pages.

To navigate the pages of a kitchen display:

  1. In the title bar, locate the page numbers.

  2. Select the chevron symbols to open the previous/next page.

Symbol Functions

The following table describes the function of each chevron symbol.

The chevron symbols turn black when there are other pages to view. If the chevron symbols are gray, then there are no additional pages to view in that direction.

When viewing the last page of orders, the symbols to the right of the page number are gray, indicating there are no additional pages to view.

Split Screen Displays

Stores with limited resources and/or a small number of kitchen displays may use split screen displays. This setup enables the kitchen staff to view and interact with two different views (e.g. Grill and Fryer) on a single kitchen display.

Optionally use a split screen display during low volume business hours when one employee is responsible for more than one kitchen station.

The first view occupies the upper-half of a split screen and the second view occupies the lower-half. The Title Bar is displayed at the bottom of each view.

Order items received from the Ordering application are routed to the appropriate view based on configuration.

Anmerkung

  • Split screen displays are only supported in Row View.

  • The following panes/screens are not available on a split screen display:

    • Production Forecast Pane

    • Order Item Summary Pane

    • Ingredient Summary Pane

    • Recipe Screen

Bump Bar Functions

Upstream Status Displays

Anmerkung

The following is an optional feature that is configured by the system administrator.

Orders and combo meals are typically prepared at two or more different stations prior to final assembly and delivery to the customer.

The Upstream Status feature enables the kitchen staff to monitor the status of order items at other stations. Order items can only be bumped from the station displays once all items associated with the order are prepared.

Example

In this example, there are three kitchen displays: Front Counter, Fryer, and Grill.

A customer orders the Hamburger combo meal, which includes the items Hamburger, Fries, and Beverage.

The combo meal components are routed to the kitchen displays as follows:

Kitchen Display

Combo Meal Components

Front Counter

Sandwich, Fries, Beverage

Fryer

Fries

Grill

Hamburger

Order Item Status Indicators

In an upstream status configuration, an order item status indicator is displayed next to each parent (or base-level) item to indicate its upstream status. Status indicators are not displayed next to child items or modifiers.

The following table describes the two types of status indicators.

Status Indicator

Description

Order_Item_In_Progress.png

Order item preparation is in progress.

This indicator persists until the order item is bumped from the station display where the item is prepared.

Order_Item_Ready.png
  • On an upstream status display where the order item is NOT prepared, this indicates the order item is bumped from the station display where the item is prepared.

  • On an upstream status display where the order item is prepared, this indicates the order item may be bumped once it is prepared.

Example

  • The Expo display monitors the upstream status of items at the Grill and Fryer stations.

  • The Hamburger item is routed to both the Expo and Grill stations.

    • The Order_Item_In_Progress.png indicator is displayed next to the Hamburger on the Expo monitor to indicate the item is “in progress” at the Grill station.

  • The Fried Chicken is prepared and bumped from the Fryer monitor.

    • The Order_Item_Ready.png indicator is displayed next to Fried Chicken on the Expo monitor to indicate that preparation at the Fryer station is complete.

Order Ready Display

An Order Ready display is positioned in the customer waiting area enabling the customer to see the status of their order.

While a customer's order is prepared in the kitchen, the customer's name appears in the In Progress section on the display.

When the order is ready, the customer's name appears in the Ready section. In an Upstream Status environment, the customer's order remains in the In Progress column until all their order items are bumped from all Upstream Status displays.

Orders are automatically removed from the "Ready" section after a configurable amount of time. This expiration value is defined by your system administrator.

Anmerkung

If a customer name is not associated with the order, the order number is displayed.

Depending on system configuration, the orientation of the Order Ready display is either vertical or horizontal.
