Create a Terminal

The following describes how to create a new cashier terminal record using the Terminals editor in Data Management.

To create a terminal:

  1. From the Xenial Portal, select Data Management.

  2. From the Ordering Settings menu, select Hardware.

  3. Select Terminals.

  4. Select New Terminal.

  5. Configure the record as needed.

Define General Settings for a Terminal

Fields with a red asterisk are required.

To define general settings for a terminal record:

  1. Open the General page of the terminal record.

  2. In the Terminal Name field, type a name for the terminal.

  3. In the Terminal Number field, type the terminal number.

  4. Set the Active toggle to Active if the terminal record is available for use at the site.

    • Multi-site users: Select the globe icon located to the right of the field to define values for each site.

  5. From the Terminal Scheme dropdown, select the desired order taking scheme to assign to the terminal.

    The dropdown is populated with the terminal scheme records created using the Terminal Scheme editor.

  6. In the Location field, type the location at the site where the physical terminal is located.

  7. In the Tender Button Max field, type the maximum number of pay type buttons to display on the Tender screen.

    • If the number of available pay type buttons exceeds the number specified in this field, a More button is added to the Tender screen. The cashier selects the More button to access the pay type buttons that are not displayed.

  8. Set the Operate with Drawer Open toggle to On to allow the cashier to perform transactions while the physical cash drawer is open.

  9. In the Change Due Override Timeout (Seconds) field, type the number of seconds that the Change Due popup must remain open before the Close button is displayed. In the event that communication with the terminal is disrupted, the cashier or manager can select the Close button to close the Change Due popup and return to the previous screen.

    • Valid values are from 0-99. The default value is 30.

  10. Set the Override Cash Threshold Site Preference toggle to Yes to allow this terminal to override the Cash Threshold value defined for the site/company. The Cash Threshold value is the maximum amount of cash to allow a drawer to contain before the cashier is prompted to perform a Cash Pull.

    • In the Cash Threshold Value field, the maximum amount of cash to allow a drawer to contain at this terminal before the cashier is prompted to perform a Cash Pull. To allow an unlimited amount of cash, type 0 in this field.

Add Peripheral Devices to a Terminal

The following describes how to add peripheral devices to a cashier terminal record. Examples of peripheral devices include: printers, cash drawers, barcode scanners, and line displays.

To add peripheral devices to a terminal:

  1. Open the Peripherals page of the terminal record.

  2. From each dropdown menu, select the peripheral device to associate with the terminal.

    Anmerkung

    The dropdown menus are populated with the peripheral device records added using the Peripherals editor, which is accessible from the Ordering Settings > Hardware menu.

  3. If a physical keyboard is attached to the terminal, set the Physical Keyboard toggle to On.

Dual Cash Drawers

Dual cash drawer assignments are only supported in Employee Banking Mode, which is configured at the terminal scheme level with the Banking Mode setting.

The Banking Mode setting is located on the Drawers tab of the Terminal Scheme editor.
