Define General Settings for a Product

Open the General page of the Product List editor to define general settings about a product, including:

  • Product Naming - Define how the product is identified by name in the Ordering application.

  • Reporting Categories - Assign product records to reporting categories to group associated products together on reports.

  • Tags - Tag products with descriptive terms to group similar products together.

  • Tax Groups - Assign a tax group to a product to define the tax rate that is applied to the product price during the order taking process.

  • Additional Information - Provide more descriptive information about the product and define alternate price lookup codes (PLUs).

Name a Product

To specify how the product is identified by name:

  1. From the pane on the left, open the General page of the product record.

  2. On the General page, locate the Naming section.

  3. In the Formal Name field, type the default name of the product.

  4. In the ID field, type a price lookup code (PLU).

    • The PLU is an identification code used to improve the accuracy of inventory control.

  5. From the Item Type dropdown, select Product.

Assign the Product to Reporting Categories

Assign product records to reporting categories to group associated products together on reports.

To assign the product to reporting categories:

  1. From the pane on the left, open the General page of the product record.

  2. On the General page, locate the Reporting section.

  3. From the Major Category dropdown, select the primary reporting category.

    • Select New Major Category to add a new major reporting category.

  4. From the Minor Category dropdown, select the secondary reporting category.

    • Select New Minor Category to add a new minor reporting category.

Assign Tags to a Product

Tag products with descriptive terms to group similar products together. Examples of product tags include: Entree, Beverage, Vegetable, Condiment.

Identify a group of products by their tag when configuring bundled components, modifier groups, pricing rules, and other record types.

Assign Tags

To assign a tag to a product:

  1. From the pane on the left, open the General page of the product record.

  2. On the General page, locate the Product Tags section.

  3. From the Tags dropdown, select the tags.

To quickly locate an existing tag, type the name in the Tags field.

Add a New Tag

To add a new tag to the tag list:

  1. In the Tags field, type the tag name.

  2. Select (Add New).

Opmerking

Review the existing tags to ensure that the new tag is necessary and that it confirms with the naming convention of other tags.

Assign a Tax Group to a Product

Assign a tax group to a product to define the tax rate that is applied to the product.

To assign a tax group to the product:

  1. From the pane on the left, open the General page of the product record.

  2. On the General page, locate the Taxation section.

  3. From the Product Tax Group dropdown, select the tax group.

Define Additional Information about a Product

Provide more descriptive information about the product and create alternate price lookup codes (PLUs) in the Additional Information section of the General page of a product record.

In the Item Description field, type a detailed description of the item. This detailed item description is provided to customers when placing an order online. The Item Description field accepts up to 1024 alphanumeric characters.

Create Alternate PLUs

Create alternate alternate price lookup codes (PLUs) that the order taker can use to add this product to an order.

To create alternate PLUs:

  1. From the pane on the left, open the General page of the product record.

  2. On the General page, locate the Alternate PLUs section.

  3. Select Create to create a new Alternate PLU.

  4. Scan or type the PLU barcode information in the provided field.

  5. Select Done.
