Create a Tax Rate

To create a tax rate record:

  1. From the Xenial Portal, select Data Management.

  2. From the Ordering Settings menu, select Taxes.

  3. Select Tax Rates.

  4. Select New Tax Definition.

  5. Configure the record as needed.

  • Associate tax groups with tax rates from the Tax Groups page of the Tax Rates editor.

  • Assign a tax group to a product from the General page of the Product List editor.

  • Assign a tax group to a modifier from the General page of the Modifier List editor.

Define General Settings for a Tax Rate

General settings for a tax rate include its name, application type, and amount/percentage. Fields with a red asterisk are required.

To define general settings for a tax rate:

  1. Open the General page of the tax rate record.

  2. In the Name field, type a name for the tax rate.

  3. From the Type dropdown, select the desired option. The selected option determines how the tax rate is applied.

    • Fixed Amount – Apply a fixed dollar amount to the product price. The dollar amount is determined by the defined tax table on the Tax Table page.

    • Fixed Rate (default) – Apply a percentage-based tax to the product price.

  4. From the Based On dropdown, select the desired option. The selected option determines the basis for the applied tax.

    • Price – Base tax on the price of the product.

    • Quantity – Base tax on the quantity of the product that the customer ordered.

  5. In the Amount field, type the specific dollar amount (e.g. 1.50) or percentage (e.g. 0.50 for 50%) of the tax rate.

    • This value corresponds to the Type option selected in step 3. If Fixed Amount is selected, this value is recognized as a dollar amount. If Fixed Rate is selected, this value is recognized as a percentage.

    • Use the -/+ controls to adjust the value as needed.

  6. Set the Tax Inclusive toggle to On to hide the applied tax value both on the customer receipt and on the order Item listbox of the Ordering application.

    • The applied tax value is added to the order total, but it is not displayed on a separate line.

  7. From the Tax Class dropdown, select the applicable tax class for the business.

  8. From the Jurisdiction dropdown, select the administrative level that imposes the tax at the site(s).

    Opmerking

    The Jurisdiction dropdown is populated with records created using the Tax Jurisdictions editor.

  9. Set the Marketplace Liability toggle to On if the tax rate is liable to the marketplace facilitator when ordered from a tax-liable marketplace facilitator source.

    A "marketplace facilitator" is defined as a marketplace that contracts with third-party sellers to promote the sale of certain goods and/or services.

    • External ID - Type the identifier to use when referencing the tax rate from external systems.

Define the Tax Rate Availability

To define the availability of a tax rate:

  1. Open the Availability page of the tax rate record.

  2. Locate the Availability section.

  3. Set the Active toggle to Active if the tax rate is currently applicable at the site.

    • Multi-site users: Select the globe icon located to the right of the field to define values for each site.

Associate Product Tax Groups with a Tax Rate

To associate product tax groups with a tax rate:

  1. Open the Tax Groups page of the tax rate record.

  2. Locate the Product Tax Groups section.

  3. Select tax groups for the tax rate.

    • From the Available column, select a tax group.

    • Select the right arrow to move the tax group to the Included column.

    • Select the left arrow to remove a selected tax group from the Included column.

Associate Modifier Tax Groups with a Tax Rate

To associate modifier tax groups with a tax rate:

  1. Open the Tax Groups page of the tax rate record.

  2. Locate the Modifier Tax Groups section.

  3. Select tax groups for the tax rate.

    • From the Available column, select a tax group.

    • Select the right arrow to move the tax group to the Included column.

    • Select the left arrow to remove a selected tax group from the Included column.

Define Tax Rate Application Rules

To define the rules that govern how the tax rate is applied during the tender process:

  1. Open the Rules page of the tax rate record.

  2. In the Min Taxable Amount field, type the minimum order total to which the tax rate may apply.

  3. In the Max Taxable Amount field, type the maximum order total to which the tax rate may apply.

  4. Set the Tax on Tax toggle to On to calculate the standard taxes for an order, and then calculate tax on the tax amount. The "tax on tax" is added to the standard tax amount for a grand tax total.

  5. From the Taxable by dropdown, select the desired option.

    • Consumption type - Tax is determined by the consumption type of the order: On Premises or Off Premises. Select the consumption type from the Consumption Types dropdown.

    • Destination - Tax is determined by the order destination. Select the order destination(s) from the Taxable Destinations table.

    • None - Tax is not affected by consumption type or order destination.

Define a Tax Table for a Fixed Amount Tax Rate

To define a tax table for a Fixed Amount tax rate:

  1. Open the Tax Table page of the tax rate record.

    Opmerking

    The Tax Table page is only available when Fixed Amount is selected from the Type dropdown on the General page of the Tax Rates editor.

  2. Select the desired application method:

    • Actual - Tax value is explicitly defined in the tax table.

    • Pattern - Tax value is determined as needed by the pattern of ranges defined in the tax table.

  3. Select Add Range to define order total ranges and the respective fixed dollar amount to apply to the order total as tax. For example, $0.04 tax is applied when an order total is within the range of $0.99 - $5.00.

    • In the Range Start field, type the lowest dollar amount in the range. The Range Start value for the first range is $0.00.

    • In the Range End field, type the highest dollar amount in the range.

    • In the Amount field, type dollar amount that is applied to the order as tax.

    • Select OK.

  4. Repeat step 3 to add additional rows to the tax table (if applicable).
